John Fetterman, the outspoken senator from Pennsylvania, is once again bucking his own party, and this time the target is what he considers a glaring double standard on constitutional principles.

As first covered by Trending Views, Fetterman sat down with Fox News host Kayleigh McEnany to lay out his argument in characteristically blunt fashion. He pointed back to the spring of 2025, when many on the political left were convinced that a constitutional crisis was unfolding under President Trump. At that time, Fetterman pushed back against the panic. He explained that a true crisis of that nature would involve a president openly refusing to comply with a court order, especially one from the Supreme Court. According to Fetterman, that never actually occurred.

"As far as I know, the Trump administration has not defied any of those court rulings," he stated. He also noted that simply making that observation drew significant anger from left-leaning media outlets.

But now, Fetterman says, the situation has changed in a way that should genuinely alarm people. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani publicly declared his intention to ignore the Supreme Court's ruling that upheld President Trump's power to terminate Temporary Protected Status for Haitian and Syrian nationals. Many individuals covered by TPS have been living in the country under that designation for ten years or longer.

Fetterman is frustrated that few in his party are raising alarms about Mamdani's stance. He observed that he has not witnessed the kind of outrage that erupted over the previous perceived crises. "When you have the leader of the country's largest city saying we're not going to follow or honor what the Supreme Court says," Fetterman explained, that is exactly the scenario he had previously described as a legitimate constitutional crisis.

His broader point is about consistency. Democrats who were vocal about potential threats to constitutional norms in 2025 are now largely quiet when a major city's leader openly vows to disregard the highest court in the land. For Fetterman, that silence speaks volumes and represents a failure to apply the same principles regardless of political convenience.

The senator has built a reputation for challenging socialist-leaning elements within his own party, and this latest critique fits squarely within that pattern. Whether or not his colleagues respond, Fetterman seems determined to keep pointing out what he views as a fundamental inconsistency.
