Gavin Newsom ponders next steps as CA peninsula faces threats of becoming an island

Recent news warns that the Monterey Peninsula in California is in danger of becoming an island. This is possible due to the rise in river levels after recent storms, leaving Gov. Gavin Newsom wondering what to do next. If the Salinas River floods, the Monterey Peninsula could be cut off from the rest of the state. The towns of Monterey, Pacific Grove, Pebble Beach, and Carmel are situated on the peninsula. In low-lying districts close to the river, the sheriff’s office modified warnings to evacuation orders.

Here’s a video on the flooding report at the Monterey Peninsula:

The KTVU video description stated: “The rising Salinas River is expected to flood and could cut off the Monterey Peninsula from the mainland. The Monterey County sheriff has ordered people to evacuate low-lying communities near the river while warning that the world-known coastal cities of Monterey, Carmel by the Sea and Pacific Grove could be unreachable by road.

According to Tina Nieto, Monterey County Sheriff, this situation occurred in 1995, when a massive flood turned the Monterey Peninsula into an island, and people were unable to cross the water. Nieto stated that a similar situation is expected, but it is not as bad as it appears. The goal is to close some of the roadways, and people may become trapped on one side or the other, said a report on Newsmax.

Before residents can go home again, according to Nieto, it could take days. At least 18 people have died as a result of a series of storms that generated severe floods throughout California. People have died as a result of the hazardous and devastating winter storms that have ravaged California. Gov. Gavin Newsom stated that the storms caused more casualties than wildfires in the prior two years combined and warned that the death toll is sure to climb.

In Yosemite National Park, a rockfall claimed the lives of a husband and wife. Their Dodge Ram truck was forced off the road when rocks fell from a height of around 1,000 feet above the road. A redwood tree crashed on a trailer, killing the 2-year-old kid. Following tree branches crashing into their tents, two homeless people were discovered dead in separate locations. These are only a couple of tragic incidents that occurred because of the wild storms.
