Democrat and failed gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams sounds angry that the GOP blocked the so-called ‘Voter Rights Bill.’ Independent Senator Angus King chimed in too, targeting the filibuster in a lengthy conversation.
Democrats are trying to say there is voter suppression that represents a Jim Crow era in 2021 and acting like there’s a struggle. This is the party who rejects the idea of using voter ID to ensure every one person gets one vote and they can do it in person. They have even insulted minorities by claiming that not everyone has access to an ID, which is complete BS because the Democrats give things away for free (like money) so they could easily get everyone an ID if they wanted to – but they don’t want to.
WATCH STACEY ABRAMS AND ANGUS KING REACT:
The Democrats wanted to rewrite election and voting laws, but a Republican opposition took them down and blocked it with a filibuster.
Now some Democrats want to get rid of the filibuster, but they forget that if Trump were president, they would probably try using filibusters against his party too. It makes no sense to eradicate the filibuster because it’s there for each party to use as needed.
AP provided details on the previous Democrat bill that was shut down by Republicans in June:
The bill, known as the For the People Act, would touch on virtually every aspect of how elections are conducted, striking down hurdles to voting that advocates view as the Civil Rights fight of the era, while also curbing the influence of money in politics and limiting partisan influence over the drawing of congressional districts.
But many in the GOP say the measure represents instead a breathtaking federal infringement on states’ authority to conduct their own elections without fraud — and is meant to ultimately benefit Democrats.
It failed on a 50-50 vote after Republicans, some of whom derided the bill as the “Screw the People Act,” denied Democrats the 60 votes needed to begin debate under Senate rules. Vice President Kamala Harris, the first Black woman to hold her office, presided over the chamber as the bill failed to break past that filibuster barrier.
ABC News provided a bit of info on Democrats’ revised bill from a few days ago:
The modified bill, now known as The Freedom to Vote Act, is a compromise after the previous For The People Act failed to pass in the Senate last June.
This is what I mean when I say one party has no common sense.
Why would the Democrats get rid of the filibuster when it’s something THEY can use in the future if needed?
It’s like they’re biting off their nose to spite their face.
Makes no sense, but then again, neither does half the things they do.
