Joe Rogan lambasted L.A. District Attorney George Gascón for refusing to press criminal charges against the individual who assaulted comic Dave Chappelle during his gig at the Hollywood Bowl.
“L.A. District Attorney Drops Felony Charges for Accused in Dave Chappelle Hollywood Bowl Attack,” read a headline posted by the podcast host on Insta Thursday with his millions of followers. Rogan believes it’s the kind of incident that “makes people lose trust in law enforcement” when “you observe a person” who “obviously” commits a “clear crime” but isn’t charged.
“That’s the kind of way to make humans lose faith in law enforcement when you see a person commit a clear violent act, and then does to one of the most adored entertainers alive, but does so in a very highly publicized public venue, and it gets captured on video, and you don’t charge the said person for what they clearly did,” the podcast host captioned his post, said a report.
He said, “That’s never good.”
“Prosecutors judged that while illegal behavior happened, the evidence as provided did not establish felony conduct,” a representative for the district attorney’s office said in a screenshot he posted.
In a comment on Rogans’ story, Saagar Enjeti, co-host of “The Realignment” show and “Breaking Points with Krystal and Saagar,” inquired, “What does someone need to do to genuinely get charged with a crime in LA?”
As originally reported by The Daily Wire, the accused offender has been confirmed as Isaiah Lee, 23, of Los Angeles.
According to the New York Post, Lee was apparently equipped with a knife linked to a fake pistol. “Lee was caught soon after 3:30 a.m. Wednesday & jailed on $30,000 bail, records indicate,” said LAPD spokesman Lizeth Lomeli.
On Thursday, the guest addressed the attack on fellow comic Dave Chappelle, telling his “Joe Rogan Experience” podcast audience that he spoke with the renowned comedian following the incident.
“This f***ing Dave Chappelle stuff is nuts,” Rogan said to Tony Hinchcliffe, his guest. “Someone assaulted them at the Hollywood Bowl last night, I think.” He’s all right. Today I did check in with him. He was making a joke about it. He’s in a terrific mood.”
Rogan and his host then viewed a video that went viral on social media of someone running on stage and attempting to tackle Chappelle, which the host described as “insane.”
“Clearly, something is wrong with him,” said the podcast presenter. “Look at how quickly he flees.” Oh my gosh, the man has never tackled someone before.”
After Will Smith hit Chris Rock at the 94th Awards Show for making a mockery about Jada Pinkett Smith’s shaved head during her hair loss fight, Rogan expressed his worry that something similar might happen.
