Mitt Romney says Donald Trump will be Republican nominee if running in 2024

Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) isn’t very popular among Republicans, having voted twice to convict ex-President Donald Trump during his impeachment.
However, the 75-year-old legislator is a realist. Following two dozen Trump-backed contenders winning the Republican primary victory on Tuesday, Romney predicted that Trump will run again in 2024 and that he will win.
Romney told Axios, “It’s hard to see anything that would undermine his support.” “So, if he chooses to be the nominee in ’24, I believe he has a good chance of doing so.”
Romney also admitted something. He stated, “I don’t mislead myself towards thinking I have a large swath of the Republican base.” Trump’s authority, he conceded, remained considerable, as reported.
“He is, without a doubt, the party’s leader… Romney continued, “If he chooses to run, he will become the nominee.”
After his votes against Trump, the Utah senator has indeed been treated as a non-member of the party, causing him to take evasive measures.
“Republican Senator Mitt Romney is said to enjoy going undercover in Palm Beach, Fl.” according to Business Insider. “A family friend informed the writers of the new book ‘This Will Not Pass: Trump, Biden, and the Battle for America’s Future,’ that Utah conservative is already wearing a hat while eating out in the opulent oceanfront enclave, in which he has a holiday house, in an effort to disguise himself.”
“There was a significant probability he would be mistreated if he was identified by Trump fans there,” New York Times writers Jonathan Martin and Alex Burns reported. Trump’s residence at the Mar-a-Lago property is located in Palm Beach.
Romney may have strong reasons to remain anonymous. Trump fans harangued Romney as he awaited a trip to D.C. at the Salt Lake International Airport the day before the riot at the US Capitol on January 6, 2021. An irate lady called him an “absolute disgrace” in a viral video at the time, while other passengers on board screamed “traitor” at the senator.
The Mormon senator went against his party twice to oppose Trump, whom he dubbed a “fake” during the 2016 Republican presidential campaign. Romney voted with every Democrat in the Senate in February 2020 to remove Trump from the presidency for what he called an “appalling misuse of public trust.”
Romney was one of seven Republican senators who voted to convict Donald in his impeachment trial for the Capitol riot less than a year later, but the president was ultimately exonerated by the Senate.
